OS2008 on the N800 ahead of time

Today I was thinking...why wait December to check out the OS2008 ?
;-)

It looks WONDERFUL.

Oh, by the way, I was accepted for the N810 developer device program too!!!

Snow

I live one hour south of Naples and snow is rare during winter. This morning I found snow on the nearby mountains. Unbelievable. But this made me think not about the climate change but about how better it is to own a Nokia tablet instead of an Apple iPhone. I am wearing gloves.

Pattinare

Qui (Domenica 13 Maggio) siamo a Vico Equense in Costiera Sorrentina. Sabato invece ci siamo distesi sulla spiaggia della Litoranea di Pontecagnano... il sole ci sta già decentemente abbronzando :)

Today I was thinking...well... not thinking, but surfing the web.
And this is what I've discovered:

Looks like I will have to buy at least a 1Gb memory card and try to help these guys.

Nokia 770 development status

Sgrunt.. I still wasn't able to find time to start playing with my Nokia 770!

Human waste

Today I was thinking... that, ok, we should waste less energy.. .that we should turn off lights when not using it and avoid putting electronics devices in stand by (the stand-by LED consumes energy).
But I was also thinking that we might as well get some help from the big companies. Building a cellphone (gps receiver, laptop, you-name-it device) charger that automatically powers itself off when not charging would definitely help. The same concept applies to other electronic devices as well (for example the TV).

That would help. A lot.

Maemo Mapper on the Nokia 770

My brother bought an almost nameless bluetooth GPS receiver a few days ago. He planned to use it with is Nokia N70 and Tom Tom. Since he still does not have the Tom Tom, I stole the GPS receiver and I am using it with Maemo Mapper.
The software is great. It has few great features like the possibility to pre-download maps along a planned route so that you won't walk in the dark if you happen to be without Internet coverage.
What I would like to see (and may be I'll do it myself) is to use the GMaps APIs when Internet is available during the trip and to switch back to the cached jpgs when not.

GMaps APIs do not provide (as far as I know) a way to cache maps, but Maemo Mappe already stores the maps downloaded along the way.

I did not try the patched versions yet, but I'd like to see many of them integrated in the main project. The screen size of the Nokia 770 is quite big, there's enough space to show more infos (current speed, altitude, GPS signal strength and so forth).

I was planning to do something similar to Maemo Mapper for my Symbian OS/UIQ phone (the Motorola A1000) but developing for Symbian is like developing on Windows: a nightmare.

This is Linux. I was born on Linux and my father (the virtual one :-) ) gave me the keys for VI.

Let's see what the future will say.

UPDATE: well, something is already working on it:
